I have worked with a lot of development athletes through National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), but also young athletes who are not yet on a development pathway. Working with the adolescent athlete is a passion of mine. Physiologically they are quite distinct to adults, and so are their nutrition requirements.
Not only do young people play sport at a high level at a younger age, but they are also juggling school, usually one or two other sports, and the social engagements associated with being a teenager. I have had a number of young athletes and their parents work with me to ensure they are eating enough, and the right things, to support their sporting activities, energy levels and general well-being.
